TechRadars sister site DigiTimes has the latest on Airtels plans to acquire a major player in the wireless internet market.
CenturyLink is one of the leading providers of high-speed broadband networks in the United States and one of India’s largest mobile phone networks.
Airtel will acquire Centurylink for about Rs 3,400 crore ($2.8 billion), the company said on Thursday.
The deal will focus on its network infrastructure and broadband services, it added.
AirtEL will operate out of a 3,500 sq km (1,600 sq mile) headquarters in the US state of California and the company will retain 50 per cent of its existing offices in India, with the rest in China.
The acquisition will add to Airtela’s portfolio of high speed wireless access services in the country, which include its 1,500 megabit (1 Gbps) network and a 1,200 megabit-per-second (Mbps) one in India.
A majority of its revenue comes from mobile broadband services.
